The Review: Resin Dogs – Still The Beats Vinyl 45 Release

22 March 2023

Available for Pre Order Now with the official Release date 24th March 2023

It is an honour to review this new 45 release from one of Australia’s finest musical proponents, The Resin Dogs with both tracks taken from the 2019 Notorious D.O.G album, which only came out as a 14 track cd release.

It is a great album and for me just superb that these 2 standout tracks from the album are now on a beautiful slice of 7″ wax for the very first time.

These tracks are aimed at getting the dance floor started and I know that party rocking 45s djs are going to want to add these to their party bags.

While some may be unfamiliar with the Resin Dogs, many of you know of one of their key members, Deejay Katch and most likely own some of his releases on 45, like the current Members Only Recordings release and his releases via the Take Fingz label.

This release is Limited to 100 clear marine vinyl & 200 black, so I’d be quick on getting your preorders in, now for the tracks…

Side A – Still the Beats feat Dialectrix

From the get go this track bumps with Dialectrix dropping fire on the Mic to get us up on our feet and onto the dance floor, plus those drums and horn/synth stabs are funkier than a Brisbane rainstorm.

It’s a call to arms to keep making music, to keep the party vibes alive and comes straight from a classic hip hop party ethos.

It’s funky, soulful, the raps are out front and delivered like we’re all at a Resin Dogs party together.

Also I love how the the chorus pays homage to Sydney hip hop kings Def Wish Cast.

One thing about the Resin Dogs is that they always bring the fire, with such a depth of talent within the group and a long history of crate digging and making music and this is reflected in the pure joy and funkiness of this track.

The track has incredible production and did I mention the drums.

I can’t wait to start dropping this track in my more upbeat sets and see the reaction.

I could think of no better release to put on 45 as part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations of the legendary Hydrofunk Records.

Side B – ShaftsKungFuCarChase

A banging instrumental track written by Dave Dog & Al Mawdsley who spent some time at Hydrofunk HQ setting up the studio, this track is an instrumental banger that the Dogs are Notorious for.

I felt like I was in a car chase or a Beastie Boys video or cruising the streets late at night in my ’63 Chrysler after a big night chasing down thugs and teaching them about being good citizens!

This tune is guaranteed to appeal to anyone fond of Blaxploitation soundtracks, funky jazz breaks, BBoying/BGirling and who likes to stride onto the dance floor with a swagger to let peeps know you mean to get down!

Big Al is originally from the UK and is known for his countless hours mixing and remixing the cream of the UK hip hop scene, having worked with The Nextmen, Roots Manuva, DJ Vadim and countless others.

For me this almost might be a case of the B Side wins again, but really to have both of these banging tracks on one 45 is incredible and adds to the value of this release.

I mean you might even need 2 copies!

All in all one killer release that I’d order real quick…
